SHL Course 9: Safe Helpline Onboarding Course

The Safe Helpline Onboarding Course will review the Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline in more detail. During this course, you will learn about sexual assault in the military and review the skills that will enable them to help Service members and military-affiliated users who visit Safe Helpline.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Describe Safe Helpline services and resources for survivors, their friends and family, and local Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) and Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) personnel,

• Recognize the importance of and difference between anonymous and confidential services,

• Explain why survivors contact Safe Helpline and how staff are trained to support them,

• Define and describe military branches, military culture, and values,

• Describe the role of support professionals in the DoD, 

• Refer visitors to key support services,

• Use the Crisis Intervention Model to support visitors,

• Work towards the Desired Outcomes of a crisis intervention session, and

• Integrate skills to support military survivors in a role play.

  
  

The following modules and quizzes comprise the components of the SHL Onboarding course. Each component must be completed in order to move forward in the course. All prerequisites must be met before trainees can attend Live Learning 4. You have one week to complete the course.
